ruins behind these kids are from the old prison of Aipelo in East Timor, where political prisoners from the old fascists regime in Portugal would be deported to.

I absolutely love that nowadays, it is these gorgeous local kids that "own" this place and make it their playground.

no other revenge for all the ill fascism did could possibly be sweeter to me!

I am sure it would warm the hearts of any of the souls that once were forcibly held with in those confines to know that now the children have triumphed with such joy.

As a kid and living in the fascist morass that was Portugal in those days, I went past this place often and thought many times how I'd like to see it demolished and destroyed.

Now, I think this is 200 times better than that. These kids were simply awesome! They are from a public school right behind where we took the photo.
