Barking owls are more or less common in most states but around where I live they aren't: too much noise and artificial light for them to be able to hunt in peace and quiet.
One of the neighbors alerted me to its presence as he knows I like to take wildlife shots. And the little fella was very obliging in perching itself in an easily reachable place, relatively low.
I was able to get within around 5 metres, after that it was all the work of the lens!
I know that christmas is a major busy time work wise for you so no worries, just glad you've found time to get out with the camera as well as hopefully some rest and relaxation now 2013 is underway
